While most of the public have developed a new found respect and admiration for Rihanna after viewing her 20/20 interview with Diane Sawyer, others are not as quick to sympathize with the singer.
Last night, Rihanna’s 20/20 interview with Diane Sawyer aired on ABC allowing the “Umbrella” singer to give her side of the story regarding the February 8 incident that left her bruised and battered. In the interview Rihanna gave in grave details what took place between she and Chris Brown, how she felt about his actions, and how she’s been coping with the situation.
Though the interview appeared to be in-depth and candid, most observers are saying that Rihanna is an opportunist that has decided to publicize on her altercation with Chris Brown for the sake of album sales. Most are crediting the release of Rihanna’s forthcoming album, Rated R that is due in stores on in 3 weeks, as the reason why she decided to tell-all in her 20/20 interview.
“Where was she 9 months ago when the incident was still fresh”, a fan asked on Twitter.com just moments after Rihanna’s 20/20 interview concluded. “If she’s supposed to be a role model, why hasn’t she been photoed leaving domestic abuse facilities or becoming an advocate for young women who are victims” another spectator echoed.
The comments come on the heels of the singer being photoed on red carpets and at various industry events months after the event transpired between her and Chris Brown.
If you visit major websites or blogs you will see the recurring comments that suggest that Rihanna was not as honest in her interview as most would believe. Many observers are suggesting that the singer purposely left out details of that night to paint Chris Brown in a negative light. They feel her decision to tell exactly what happened that night while Chris has chosen to keep it private was a red flag and that she showed characteristics of a person that is “bitter.”
At the conclusion of Rihanna’s 20/20 interview, the singer stated that she wishes Chris Brown well and hopes that he can continue with his career and grow as a person. She explained that she does not hate him but that she does not have any desire to be with him.
