We know what happened to Mario Lopez after "Saved by the Bell." Lopez was saved by "Dancing with the Stars." If he's the high, then what's missing on the People magazine twenty-year reunion cover is the low: Dustin Diamond.
For those who don't remember, "Saved by the Bell" was a show that starred Mark-Paul Gosselaar, Dustin Diamond, Lark Voorhies, Dennis Haskins, Tiffani-Amber Thiessen, Elisabeth Berkley and Lopez.
The show spawned two spin-offs: "Saved by the Bell: The College Years" and "Saved by the Bell: The New Class."
What's happened to the principals? Gosselaar who played Zack, the charming schemer whose plans backfired, played John Clark on "NYPD Blues" and is on TNT's "Raising the Bar" as Jerry Kellerman. "Raising the Bar" is about former law school classmates who find themselves on opposite sides of the law.
Thiessen played Kelly who was Zack and Slater's love interest, but ends up marrying Zack. Thiessen went on to "Beverly Hills, 90210." She is reportedly cast in a new series on the USA Network that will premiere this fall.
Voorhies played the trendy Lisa. She also had a part in "The Bold and the Beautiful." She is rumored to be in a movie about Whitney Houston.
Berkley was for a while, the most infamous of the cast members after her film debut in Paul Verhoeven's 1995 film "Showgirls." Berkley has gone onto praise on stage as in "Hurlyburly" in 2005 opposite Ethan Hawke, Parker Posey and Bobby Cannavale off-Broadway and in "CSI: Miami" as Horatio Caine's (David Caruso) former lover. She also hosted Bravo's "Step It Up and Dance."
Diamond, who played Screech--the nerd, has been getting a lot of negative attention. His attempts at reality TV has resulted in a lot of negative publicity ("Celebrity Fit Club") and he pretended to be facing foreclosure as a publicity stunt. He might have lost what fans he still had. Then there was also that porn video.
Lopez who played A.C. Slater, the jock, has been working hard. He was on the 2006 "Dancing with the Stars," losing to Emmitt Smith and Cheryl Burke. He dated his professional partner, Karina Smirnoff. Before that, he was one of the co-hosts for "The Other Half" with Danny Bonaduce and Dick Clark. He also hosted "Pet Stars" for the Animal Planet Channel. He currently is a celebrity guest host for "Extra."
Lopez hosts MTV's "America's Best Dance Crew" and MTV's "Top Pop Group." He made is Broadway debut in the spring of 2008 as Zach in the revival of "A Chorus Line."
