Big Book SaleAh, the weekend. And what a weekend it is. Nothing but blue skies (even the outer Richmond) and time to explore our great city and the wonderful environs to the north, east and south. West too, I suppose, if you have a boat.

I’m off to bury my head in books, lots of them, endless rows of them stretching the length of the Festival Pavilion, a very very long building at the Fort Mason Center, located on the northern shores of San Francisco.

It’s all part of the Big Book Sale that comes around each year at the end of September, this the 43rd, and sponsored by the Friends of the San Francisco Public Library. Today, Saturday, the sale runs from 10am-8pm, and tomorrow 10am-6pm. Take a tote bag, or a U-Haul if your so inclined.

For something completely different, Sunday is the 25th anniversary of the Folsom Street Fair. Not exactly for the kids – no face painting or petting zoos. But there will be plenty of leather, of the entertainingly scary S&M variety - think biker guy in the Village People. The fair runs from 11am-6pm. Enjoy.

Gotta run…
