Yard sales are a great way to find incredible bargains on weekends. Here in Columbia, they are most likely to be found on weekends and the morning is the best time to go before everything is picked over. You may come across a sale with clothing in just the right style and size, if you are willing to keep looking for a while. One trick I use (yes, it may be a “cheap trick”), is to glance at the women who are running the sale. If at least one of them is about my size, I stop and look at fashions – if they are very large, very tiny, or very short, I may pass it by and move on to the next yard sale.
I recently found a gorgeous ecru dress with a matching sheer coat trimmed with Battenburg lace and wore it to a wedding. The yard sale price was $2.00. I also found a burgundy sweater set (matching tank and cardigan) trimmed with small black bugle beads and tiny seed pearls that will be nice for next fall for $1.00. It may be a jungle out there, but a jungle well worth picking your way through. Whatever your style, taste, needs or size, you are bound to find something inexpensive and fun.
Today in Columbia there are many sales going on – two in the Cayce/West Columbia area, two in the Downtown/Shandon area, one in Forest Acres, one in Gaston/Swansea, five in the Irmo area, one in the Blythewood area, three in northeast Columbia, and two in southeast Columbia. It’s a fun way to spend a beautiful day, meet new people, and find fantastic buys. Happy yard sale picking!
