Filmmakers Audrey Ewell and Aaron Aites made a documentary about Norwegian black metal. In it they cover the music, the burning of churches and murder, and some of the ideas that motivated these events. They're not metal fans, but were fascinated by the story, and so what we get is a lush, introspective documentary with plenty of interviews from Burzum, Darkthrone, Immortal and others.
Ewell praises the "intelligent ideology" behind black metal, but what she means is not endorsement of any particular part, but just that these people are thoughtful in their opposition to modern society. Those who have seen it say it is a reasonably fair and balanced treatment of the events and ideas, and as more metalheads show up, people are seeing how important this cultural event and audience is.
The "Until the Light Takes Us" team have posted a trailer, an interview with filmmakers Audrey Ewell and Aaron Aites including some footage from the film, and are now throwing screening parties across the USA. Houston's version is on August 7th at Domy Books, which is right next to Brazil restaurant at Westheimer and Dunlavy in the Montrose.

Having seen movies there before, I'll warn you: it's outside on the patio between Brasil and DOMY bookstore. So you'll want to wear bug repellent and bring cold water, but you can smoke and drink to your heart's content. Like all things in life, it's a tradeoff. It'll be interesting to see how many Houston metalheads show up for this event.
