ORANGEBURG, S.C. – Ashlee Gourdine, the lone senior on the Delaware State University women's soccer team, scored the only goal of the game for the Hornets as they tied South Carolina State, 1-1, Sunday afternoon.
After an evenly played first half ended scoreless, Gourdine (pictured, thanks DSU) struck first in the 64th minute on an unassisted header. It was her first of the season, the fifth of her career. With 10 minutes left in the game, however, the Bulldogs drew even when Brook Ehinger scored.
The Hornets finish the regular season Thursday at 7 p.m. at Alumni Stadium when they welcome Wilmington University to Dover. It is Senior Night, which means the spotlight again will be on Gourdine.

Hens fall to UNCW in women's soccer
NEWARK – After a first half in which they outshot their opponents, 10-4, but were unable to score, the Delaware Blue Hens dropped a heartbreaker to UNC Wilmington, 1-0, Sunday afternoon at Delaware Mini-Stadium.
For Delaware (5-6-5, 2-4-4 CAA), this was their third straight shutout. They missed narrowly on two chances, but head coach Scott Grzenda said close just doesn't do the trick.
“You can creat all the chances you want, but until you start putting the ball in the back of the net, you're not going to get the results you want.”
Megan Novak found the Hens' net in the 62nd minute to provide the margin of victory for the Seahawks.
The Blue Hens are back in action Friday at Delaware Mini-Stadium against Drexel. It is Senior Day; the game begins at 7 p.m.
