The top 10 "Mommy Websites" that I read for inspiration, ideas, advice, or a good laugh:
- Motherhood Uncensored: This was the first "mommy blog" that I had read and soon after reading it I became addicted to not just this woman's blog but "mommy blogs" in general. Kristen Chase is very candid about her views on motherhood and the daily happenings of her household. It was great to know that I wasn't the only who felt that motherhood wasn't "all that and a bag of chips."
- Dooce: Heather Armstrong is another
blunt honest "mommy blogger." I enjoy reading her stories of her dog Chuck, how her marriage is "on the brink" during her second pregnancy, and just the life of being a mother. Also, she posts daily photos that are not only asthetically pleasing but humurous and entertaining. - The Spohrs are Multiplying: One would think that it would be too emotionally difficult to read this heart-wrenching blog by Heather Spohr. Her daughter Madeline passed away in April which is why a tissue may be necessary when reading this blog. Though it is sad to read these words, they are the words of a mother who loves her daughter dearly. She is inspiring to still have words to share about her days after her daughter's passing.
- Parenting.com: Also a printed magazine this website provides great information about parenting newborns to school-aged children. They also have a community section for parents to connect and share their own parenting stories with the community.
- Hawaiimomslikeme.com: For those who reside in Hawai'i this is a great site for mom's to connect and share stories about changing a squirming infant's diapers to local events. Watch out though, the site can be quite addictive as will the other moms share once you've introduced yourself to the site. The site is sponsored by The Honolulu Advertiser.
- Cool Mom Picks: Want to know the latest and greatest product for your child? Then check out this website ran by Kristen Chase of Motherhood Uncensored and Liz Gumbinner co-author of Booty Food. They review, feature, and provide information like great gift ideas for Father's Day or the best bottle to use to wean a breat-fed baby.
- Champuru: A great local blog that gives some helpful tips and stories on how to make babyfood, book reviews, and the occasional giveaway, local events, and also features a guest blogger every-so-often.
- Rookie Moms : Moms Whitney & Heather co-authored, Rookie Moms, a book that was inspired by the two of them wanting to have great activities for their babies during their first year of life. The number of great activities has gone from 100 to over 1000 and they're still looking for more innovative things to do with their children.
- Oh dee doh : This baby chic site is mainly reserved for those who can afford that $1,000 crib but it's a great place to get nursery decorating ideas, family photo ideas, and to just fantasize about the, "If I were a rich man (mom)."
- Daddy Scratches: Dad's are parents too right? Daddy Scratches, Jon, started out wanting to be a member of a rock group but his life took him on a different kind of journey. From serving in the military to touring with Van Halen is now the proud parent of Zan & Jayna (Super Friend cartoon characters aliases for his children) and isn't afraid to share the horror stories and wonder stories of parenting.
Enjoy the websites.
