As the Superintendent of Milwaukee Public Schools has declared, it is time for the community to embrace early education. There has been a lot of focus on taxpayers’ money being wasted because of fraud in the daycare system. Although this is a broken system that needs to be fixed, Superintendent William Andrekopoulos’ recent opinion piece in the Journal/Sentinel online points out another area that needs to be focused on—high quality daycare.
There has been talk for a while about implementing a child-care quality rating system. But talk is getting the children of Milwaukee nowhere. Our children are the future of this city and without a good start in Early Education, they are at risk. Milwaukee Public Schools has been struggling for a time and although there are numerous reasons for it, one definite area that has affected this is poor quality care that some children are receiving in preschool and daycare. High quality care can make a difference!
