November is Child Safety & Protection Month. National Network for Child Care provides a quiz on their website that you can take to test your safety knowledge. Accidents are best prevented by first foreseeing potential problems.
This is a good time to take a look at your home and update any safety needs. Depending on your child’s age or any new children you may have had, it may be time to make some changes. Think of everything from electrical outlets to smoke detectors. Think of safety gates, latches on windows, railings that may need to be installed. Get eye level with your child and look for any potential hazards that may be accessible to them.
I have mentioned this website in a previous article but want to put a special focus on it again, since we are looking at safety. Family Watchdog is a website designed to help you locate sex offenders in your neighborhood. You can sign up for alerts and be notified of any changes in your neighborhood, such as a new sex offender moving in.
Remember, prevention is the best defense against accidents and danger!
