This 4th of July, Veterans for Peace, Los Angeles Chapter and their advocates who recognize the human cost of war,

conduct a candle light vigil on Santa Monica beach.

Arlington West Memorial

The event will be held on world famous Santa Monica beach at the Arlington West Memorial located on the beach directly north and adjacent to the world famous Santa Monica Pier at Santa Monica.

The vigil is to memorialize those lives lost due to war; to call for an immediate withdrawal of all US forces from Iraq and Afghanistan; and to demand proper care for the service men and women when they return home.

Veterans For Peace is an educational organization comprised of veterans of all branches of the US military who have served.

The U.S. is faced with alarming fiscal problems.  Teachers laid off and class sizes have increased.  Jobs have been moved out of the country and unemployment is increasing.  Foreclosures are on a dramatic rise.

The United States continues, however, to wage hugely unpopular and extremely costly wars in Iraq, Afghanistan and now Pakistan.

As a memorial to the human cost of these wars, Arlington West Memorial will be created on the 4th.

Beginning 6 am Saturday until 5 pm Sunday, the memorial will be open to the public.

Ceremony Saturday afternoon

A candle will be placed at the base of each cross beginning Saturday afternoon. Lighting of the candles ceremony will begin approximately 30 minutes before sunset, approximately 7:40 pm (weather permitting) and last through sunset.

Veterans For Peace calls for the immediate and complete withdrawal of all US forces from Iraq and Afghanistan and to bring the troops home now.

Learn more, take action, and keep asking  "Why?" and "Why not?" Here is a trailer of the movie, "Arlington West."  105 heartfelt interviews with Soldiers and Military Families whose children were killed in Iraq. Every Sunday, Veterans For Peace honor the fallen with a cemetery of crosses at the beach.  From sunrise to sunset every Sunday since November 2003, a temporary memorial to the human cost of war is set up on the beautiful beaches of California. This memorial is known as the Arlington West Memorial.  The Los Angeles Chapter has been setting up and maintaining this memorial each Sunday on the north side of the world famous Santa Monica Pier since February 15th, 2004.
