The stands at Drew University were packed; the crowd was so loud, it was hard to imagine that any player could hear their coach or even a teammate nearby. And after a stunning 16-0 season, Mendham High School GLAX swept the Morris County Tournament with a 16-2 win over rivals Mountain Lakes!
The girls were pumped! The hours of practice and off-field work showed. At times, it seemed they could sense each other’s presence – perfect passes found their mark amidst swarms of enemy jerseys goal after goal.
After spending much of my adult life at the side of a field or ice rink, following and cheering my children in their athletic endeavors season after season, these types of games are a kind-of ultimate payoff. Even when my own child isn’t on the field, it’s hard not to get excited. These girls are amazing athletes and wonderful to watch.
State Tournament starts Monday – and I can’t wait! (Just need to make sure that I get my voice back before then).
GO MENDHAM GLAX!
