This is your San Jose Education Examiner of California reporting once again from Jacksonville, Florida. I'm finishing the last league of my vacation and I'm learning so many things myself this summer.
I had a chance to observe fitness lessons in My Gym, a children's fitness center in this Sunshine state, offering summer learning for kids.
Coach Bruno started with an introduction and instructed the children attending gym lessons to introduce themselves too. Some were shy and others were very eager to speak about themselves. The children are learning public speaking while attending gym lessons. Assistant coach Jordan assisted the children ages 3 to 13 to compose themselves and participate in the introductions.
Sisters Bibay, 4 and Kayla Estioko, 5, attentively listened to every instructions, making sure they perform accordingly. I observed that the two coaches make sure that every move they ask the kids to do are associated with basic lessons of early childhood learning. They teach the kids the color of the mat they use in rolling, the shapes of the gym equipment, and the textures of gym facilities.
Every jump is associated with safety, precision, and skills emphasizing team work and cooperation.
The kids are learning sports skills and fundamentals that will benefit them for years to come. Lessons of honesty, self-discipline, and respect are strongly emphasized as the kids execute the lessons structured for the summer class.
From my expectator's corner in the gym, I overheard Coach Bruno emphasizing precision skills coupled with life-long skills for every instruction he made.
My Gym is located at 14446 Beach Boulevard, Jacksonville, Florida (http://www.my-gym.com) and has a theme "Fitness Made Fun for Kids" with a battle cry "Your Child's Success is What We're About."
