
For service to the Milpitas Public Library, City Mayor Robert Livengood will present a commendation to Library Commissioner Margie Stephens during the Commission's next regular meeting on November 16, 2009 at the Auditorium of the newly-built Milpitas Public Library.
"On behalf of the citizens of Milpitas, the Milpitas City Council, and the Milpitas Library Advisory Commission, I hereby commend you for being honored by the California Association of Library Trustees and Commissioners (CALTAC) and for your many years of dedication to the Milpitas Public Library," Livengood said.
Stephens has served the commission since 1986 to the present and has been active with the Friends of the Milpitas Library for many years. It was her idea to start the on-going sale of books in the library, an endeavor which requires constant attention, but bringing in up to $1,000.00 a month to the Library coffers.
Each year, the Friends of the Milpitas Library conducts three big book sales which averages $18,000.00 yearly sales.
Upon the nomination of Milpitas Public Library Community Librarian Linda Arbaugh, Stephens was named by CALTAC as Commissioner for Outstanding Service to a local library .
Aside from the Mayor's commendation, the Library Advisory Commission (LAC) will likewise honor Stephens for her outstanding achievement.
Mayor Livengood also thanked Stephens for all her work for the Milpitas Public Library and for the citizens of the city of Milpitas.
Milpitas Public Library is under the Santa Clara County Library Systems headed by County Librarian Melinda Cervantes.
