
An American has won the New York City Marathon for the first time since 1982. Meb Keflezighi from California, and also the 2004 Olympic Silver medalist finished in 2 hours, 9 minutes, and 15 seconds (2:09:15). Robert Cheruiyot from Kenya took second in 2 hours, 9 minutes, and 56 seconds (2:09:56), and Jaouad Gharib from Morocco came in third finishing in 2 hours, 10 minutes and 25 seconds (2:10:25). US hopeful, Ryan Hall finished fourth in 2 hours, 10 minutes, 36 seconds(2:10:36).
The top woman finisher was Derartu Tulu from Ethiopia who finished in 2 hours, 28 minutes, 52 seconds (2:28:52). Ludmila Petrova, from Russia came in second in 2 hours, 29 minutes, and 00 seconds (2:29:00). The third place woman was Christelle Daunay from France who finished in 2 hours, 29 minutes, and 16 seconds (2:29:16). Britian hopeful Paula Radcliff, the world record holder and past three time winner, came in fourth at 2 hours, 29 minutes, 27 seconds (2:29:27).
