In addition to the recipes that are already on the site--many of them courtesy of Angie Cook, a chef who is a relative of the Probsts--users are able to enter their own recipes. These can be recipes of the user's creation, or from cookbooks; however, those entered from a cookbook will only have the ingredients entered, as copyright issues will not allow the directions to be included. Users click on the Submit Recipe link to do this, and Greg and Edna enter it onto the website themselves as they come in. Greg said that in the next week or two new software will be installed, which will allow the recipes to go up right away, which will streamline the process for everybody.
Greg said that the OAMC community is interesting, in that there are communities for all types of people and all types of dietary needs. The Probsts have seen the need for a social networking feature on the site, which will allow people to share recipes and tips, create groups, and network. They are seeking out dieticians and nutritionists to contribute to their site in the future, to enhance the experience for Cook of the Month users.
Because the Probsts are so family-oriented, they are looking for ways to incorporate everyone in the family. A male-oriented section for the website is currently in development, with pages and ideas for men to help with the OAMC process. Greg said that Edna is the primary cooker in the family, but he helps out as much as he can with doing dishes for her while she cooks, and also helps to develop more recipes. He would like to encourage other men to do the same, and is keeping that in mind as he works on this component.
Even if you don't do OAMC, Greg said the site is so versatile it can be used for planning major events like wedding dinners, graduation parties, and other events requiring large quantities of food.
Cook of the Month is a website every once a month cook needs to streamline the process, and to make OAMC even more stress-free. With so many great changes coming, signing up now is the best way to get involved, and to stay current with changes as they are added. Membership is free, and Greg said, "It's our little contribution to the world--we will find ways for people to be happy in it!"
