Tampa's Fox station is reporting that austere watering restrictions are about to become a bit easier for residents of the drought-parched city. In a somewhat abrupt reversal, Tampa mayor Pam Iorio says that recent downpours have sufficiently replenished the aquifer and that she now supports a relaxation of sprinkling bans. The Tampa city council is scheduled to vote on whether to lift the restrictions today.
A little more than a week ago, Iorio was urging the city council to keep draconian watering restrictions in place even though the water reservoir had risen to 20.6 feet. "In her memo, she said the sprinkling ban should not be lifted until the level reaches 21 feet and the flows reach 60 million gallons per day," an article published at TBO.com on May 19th states.
According to the Fox story, the reservoir levels have now risen to 21.77 feet with a water flow of 152 million gallons of water a day.
