Miami Gamers Begin Five-Day “Gaming for Obama”

Marathon begins Monday, October 20 at 12 p.m.

MIAMI – Oct. 20, 2008 – A Miami-based video game enthusiast will begin hosting a five-day gaming marathon today at 12 p.m. in support of Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama and his running mate, Joe Biden.

“Gaming for Obama” will feed live video 24-hours-a-day until Saturday, Oct. 25 at 12 p.m. It will be broadcast on Justin.tv (www.justin.tv) using the Web site’s live streaming video technology.

“I’m thrilled for this unprecedented event because there’s been other marathons, but they broadcast for a day or two with one camera,” said Rey Gutierrez, host of “Gaming for Obama” and VH1 personality from Brooke Knows Best. “I’ve been known through my work to push the limits and boundaries, so we’re running eight cameras for five days, non-stop.”

“Gaming for Obama” has received print and online coverage in the New Times in both Miami-Dade and Broward counties, Examiner.com, GamePolitics.com and GameMarathons.com.

Gutierrez hopes the event will engage gamers in the election process.

“‘Gaming for Obama’ is not just a fund raiser, but also a way to raise awareness in the gaming community to go out and vote for their favorite candidate on Nov. 4,” said Gutierrez, who is also the host of a hit, weekly online video game show on Justin.tv called R3Y’S GAMEDAY EXTRAVANGAZA (R.G.D.E.). “Instead of hitting the streets with banners, we’re using modern technology and tools no one has really tapped into to reach a demographic that historically has had a low voter turnout.”

Gutierrez and the R.G.D.E. crew invite Obama supporters and gamers to join them by playing online or, for local Miami supporters, to stop by the actual live show.

“We’ll be playing next-generation and past-generation games, including Rock Band, Halo, Call of Duty and many more titles, on all gaming platforms,” Gutierrez added. “Viewers will see everything through multiple cameras set up around my house. Gaming. Sleeping. Eating. Showers. No, kidding. No showers.”

They hope to capture the attention of the local Hispanic demographic, as well, by answering questions from Spanish-speaking viewers.

“Two of the R3Y’S GAMEDAY crew are fluent Spanish speakers, so we hope to attract that market since it is the fastest-growing minority in the United States and a critical group of voters in the upcoming election,” Gutierrez explained.

Supporters can donate to the Obama campaign by clicking on “Donate Now” at www.RGDE.tv. The “Gaming for Obama” team is also looking for vendors to provide food and coffee, which will be featured throughout the show.

ABOUT R3Y’S GAMEDAY EXTRAVAGANZA

Since February 2008, the weekly, interactive R3Y’S GAMEDAY EXTRAVAGANZA (R.G.D.E) hosted on Justin.tv has garnered more than 50,000 views since mid-summer and broken street dates for popular games like Grand Theft Auto IV, Madden 09 and Rock Band 2. The cast, who is as eccentric as the varieties of games they play—Rey “R3Y” Gutierrez, Roberto “Gecko” Bueno and Gabriel “Snakeduke4life” Gomez—have interviewed big-time game developers like Wideload Games and gaming celebrity Mr. Destructoid. For more information, visit www.r3ysgameday.com or check out the show every Wednesday night starting at 8 p.m.
