Tourists are scrambling to find flights out of Los Cabos on the Baja Peninsula as Tropical Storm Rick approaches from the southwest. American Airlines is adding an extra flight to Dallas on Tuesday in response to travelers who are anxious to get out of Los Cabos ahead of the storm

A tropical storm warning was issued early Tuesday morning for the southern Baja Peninsula and the western coast of Mexico as Tropical Storm Rick is expected to make landfall within the next 24 hours. Los Cabos authorities are expecting the storm to bring heavy downpours and possible flooding to the area.

On Tuesday morning, Rick was downgraded to tropical storm status with sustained winds of 55 miles per hour. At 5:00 a.m. EDT, the storm was centered approximately 265 miles south southwest of Cabo San Lucas.

At one time over the weekend, Rick was an extremely dangerous Category 5 hurricane with winds up to 180 mph. The storm’s powerful surf has claimed two victims: a 38-year old Mexican man was killed on Sunday when a large wave swept him off a rocky point and a 16-year old boy drowned while swimming at El Medano Beach.
