For a real adrenaline rush, travel to Hong Kong and throw yourself off the Macau Tower bungee jump platform. In an instant, participants sail 764 feet (233 meters) down the side of the building. Really!
This building is not isolated. It is set in the middle of a large metropolitan area, 16 minutes from downtown Hong Kong, China.
Jumpers free fall from the bungee platform at speeds up to 200 kilometers/hour. The freefall lasts for 4–5 seconds before the 50 meter-long bungee cord begins to stretch near four times its natural length. Finally, jumpers rebound at approximately 30 meters above the ground.
The Macau Tower bungee jump is the most technical of its kind in the world. Vertical wire cables on either side of the platform allow jumpers to fall close to the tower without making contact. Close, as in jumpers being mere meters away from the concrete tower during the entire descent!
This guideline bungee system is only part of the jump’s entire safety design. Dual attachments are connected to participants at both a body harness and their feet for double the safety.
The Macau Tower bungee jump is open weekdays from 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM and weekends from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Advance reservations are available.
An initial jump costs $1,488 Hong Kong dollars(approximately $192 US) and subsequent jumps are $588 HK ($76 US) each. Jumps include a certificate, membership card and t-shirt. DVDs and photographs of your jump are also available for additional fees.
