We’ve not yet seen anything by New Leaf Theatre, and thus can’t vouch for their work up close, live and personal  - but the trailer they’ve got for “Touch” (directed by New Leaf Artistic  Director Jessica Hutchinson opening Jan. 7), is sheer theatrical catnip. It stars Off-Loop regular Dan Granata (He of  CTDB fame) , and some gorgeously evocative videography (cinematography? We're just not sure, print-oriented as we are.) by Very Clever Media.

Parenthetically speaking of which, we’re sitting on a panel Jan. 15 wherein the discussion will be on how to market the arts in a world where print media is vanishing as surely as buggy whips once did. As someone who has been All About Newspapers – emphasis on the latter two syllables – since 1986 (since 1975 if you count the imprinting left by the 20+ years our mother spent writing for the Chicago Tribune), we’ve got plenty of thoughts to share on said topic (the majority of them totally not vitriolic or bitter, pinkie swear.) That Cute Guy From Time Out  and Scarlett Swerdlow of the Illinois Arts Alliance will be joining us in this discussion, which is how we know it will be an evening of intelligent, interesting dialogue. Really. We also know this to be true because the Community Media Workshop  planned the whole shebang.

But we digress. Check out the trailer. It will make you want to buy a ticket. Or at least go out and ponder your place in the universe.
