Wednesday, Governor Jodi Rell vetoed two bills, which would have created affordable health-insurance coverage for the residents of Connecticut.
Although Rell stated that the health care legislation has good intentions, they were “too expensive and premature”, given that the federal government in Washington will likely soon overhaul the entire system (AP).
One of the bills she vetoed would have created a new authoritative system to extend health care to the state’s uninsured, the first of many steps towards a universal health care system in the state. The second bill would have made the state’s health insurance plan accessible to “municipalities, small businesses and nonprofit agencies” (AP).
Later this month, the General Assembly’s Democrats are expected to return to Hartford and possibly override many of Rell’s vetoes.
