Welcome to the Baltimore Emergency Services Examiner, your online home for what’s going on locally in the field of emergency services that impacts the residents of the Baltimore region. Let me first tell you a bit about myself.
A former newspaper reporter in three states, chasing stories on the “fire and cops beat” always gave me a rush. Today I’m no longer a print journalist but maintain an active role in the region’s emergency services arena. I serve as the photographer and public information officer (PIO) for the Pikesville Volunteer Fire Company in Baltimore County; as a member of the Baltimore County Volunteer Firemen’s Association Publicity Committee, and in June will begin serving as PIO for the Maryland State Firemen’s Association.
I also can often be found photographing accident and fire scenes in the area, and my photos have been published in national magazines, daily and weekly newspapers, and on national wire services.I have taken several FEMA courses, including Advanced Public Information Officer and National Incident Management Systems, and maintain a Twitter feed @FirePix1075.
I plan to write about emergency services topics that are of interest to you, the reader, such as community events, fire safety issues, neighborhood programs, safe driving tips, and whatever other issues in emergency services are important at the time. Please feel free to share story ideas with me at mikefirepics@comcast.net and come back to visit the Baltimore Emergency Services Examiner often.
