Can looking better actually make a difference for those who are seriously ill? Yes! The Beauty Bus Foundation (BBF), a non-profit organization dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for home-bound, terminally or chronically ill patients and their primary caregivers, has tapped into one of the most important elements of life: Beauty Services.
“When someone is diagnosed with a terminal or chronic illness, their treatment becomes about quality of care. We believe that quality of life services are an integral part of coping and healing for both the patient and the primary caregiver,” said Alicia Liotta, co-founder of Beauty Bus Foundation. “The Beauty Bus reaches out to compromised and isolated individuals and brings beauty into their lives.”
BBF provides in-home beauty and grooming treatments, free of charge, to empower their clients, help them maintain dignity and give them respite during a difficult time. Beauty services are focused on people with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease), cancer, multiple sclerosis, muscular dystrophy, Parkinson’s disease, spinal cord injury, stroke and their primary caregivers.
Most recently, Beauty Bus made stops where Robbie Schaeffer of ROB/B, the first OPI Concept Salon in Studio City, did manicures for a client and her primary caregiver. In addition, celebrity hairstylist, Janine Jarmon owner of Hollywood’s Hairroin Salon, helped a spinal cord injury victim re-invent herself with a new hairstyle.
“Janine’s visit was extraordinary,” continues Liotta. “The client’s body language transformed from very closed off when we arrived, to open and proud once her hair was done. She told us she felt like a princess, that we made her feel like a lady again.”
On July 18, BBF hosted an Inaugural Friendraiser Concert held in Los Angeles, which featured world-renowned violinist Ken Aiso, who performed for attendees. The 150 guests also received a swag bag from sponsors including: Sexy Hair Concepts, OPI, Max Studio, David Babaii for WildAid, Preece and Toff at Fred Segal, Alterna, Elle and Town & Country.
