Alex Marcoux discusses prayer and Lifesigns

When you pray your prayers are always answered. If you’re like most you probably would find that statement doubtful. Let me explain.

Spirit communicates with us all the time. It sends us messages or divine guidance every day whether we’re in turmoil or in bliss. God speaks to us through signs or what I have termed, Lifesigns. Lifesigns are messages which show up in our lives and dreams. They can be synchronistic events, serendipity, psychic impressions, intuitive insights or other miracles. In all these messages we can take meaning from Spirit.

The first step of the Lifesign process is to ask. Inspirational author and teacher, Wayne Dyer says “You are important enough to ask and you are blessed enough to receive back.” According to the great Wayshower Jesus, “And everything that you will ask in prayer believing, you shall receive.”

Unfortunately we don’t always see the answers to our prayers or messages from Spirit. When we’re not living in a state of awe and wonder it should be no surprise we fail to notice Spirit’s guidance. When we’re zapped by lower energy emotions like anger, shame or fear we shouldn’t be surprised if we don’t see divine direction. Speaking from personal experience, if I’m on autopilot and I can’t remember whether I closed my garage door when I left my house I certainly won’t recognize subtle messages from Spirit.

In Carolyn Myss’ book “Entering the Castle,” Myss suggests we need to acknowledge when God sends us messages and “learn the systems through which God reaches you.” This resonates with me since I have studied and learned how signs speak to me. Myss even suggests that physical symptoms in our body can be “repressed or misinterpreted intuitive guidance,” and it’s up to us to discern whether these indicators are messages from Spirit or our body’s way of responding to daily life.

Physical ailments can warn us that something is not aligned for highest and best. Illness is not Spirit’s way of punishing us. It can be indicator that Spirit is sending a message using the body.

Recently a woman was complaining about back pain. “It just started to happen for no reason,” she told me. “I wasn’t doing anything to trigger it.”

I knew the back can be associated with money and the support system. “Worried about finances?” I asked.

“Yes. Actually, I just learned my son lost his job,” she said.

“When did the pain start?”

“After I spoke with him.”

In this case, worrying about finances triggered back pain. What is the message from Spirit? Maybe the pain was a reminder that Spirit is her source - not her finances.

In “Entering the Castle,” Myss suggests an exercise to help discern if our physical symptoms relate to misinterpreted guidance from Spirit, or whether our body is reacting to stress in our life. Similarly, the following Lifesign exercise which can help discern messages from Spirit.

This is a science, and like any science we experiment. We alter a variable, and then record the findings. What we are experimenting with is prayer and its effects in our life. Try it for a week and see what shows up in your life:

  1. Pray each day.
  2. Record what you are praying for in your journal. Note the type of prayer - is it repetitive prayer or authentic prayer? Remember the great Wayshower said, “Ask and you shall receive.” Trust and believe your prayers are answered.
  3. If you pray at night, pay attention to your dreams, and then watch what unfolds the following day. It is up to you to sense the answer and believe the prayer has been fulfilled. Throughout your day sense what emerges. Listen – watch – feel –smell. Is there an inner knowing calling to you? Watch your life unfold with serendipity, synchronicity or miracles. Know the answer has been given.
  4. If you failed to have an AHA moment through the course of your day – a moment of insight or a sign relating to your prayer – turn inward. Meditate and trust you’ll recognize the answer to your prayer.

Each day pray, experience life, and reflect on what surfaces in your life. What intuitive hits, messages or Lifesigns came through? If physical ailments are troubling you try this process and ask Spirit what the meaning is for the ailment, stress, or depression. Trust that your answer emerged and you’ll intuitively recognize it.

Experiment with prayer. Try different types. What works for you continue to use, and what doesn’t – disregard.

When you pray, know your prayers are always answered. It may not be answered with a miraculous manifestation neatly gift wrapped and presented to you. Know that Spirit sends messages all the time to answer your prayers and it’s up to you to discern the meaning of these signs.

Namaste
