It's not funny. A man in Bristol, England fed his dog almost a full can of Stella Artois beer and nearly killed him. Had Bronx, a five year-old bull mastiff, been a smaller dog, he might be dead, rather than recovering with the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA), reports the Telegraph.
When the RSPCA showed up at the home of Andrew Wilson, 30, they found Bronx staggering around, appearing confused and depressed. Wilson admitted giving the dog beer.
Bronx was found to have a dangerous level of alcohol in his body and it took him a long time to recover.
Stella Artois has a 5.2% alcohol level, which is higher than other lagers. It is known for being stronger than other lagers and getting people drunker. The Daily Mail reported in 2007 that Stella Artois lager has gained an unflattering reputation in the U.K.
Feeding your dog alcohol is potentially fatal. When the RSPCA rescued Bronx, he also had a cut on his head where Wilson had beat him.
Wilson was charged under the Animal Welfare of 2006 and sentenced 150 hours of community service and ordered to pay a £500 fine (about $746). He is also banned from owning warm-blooded animals for one year.
