In the Year of the Ox, we've got an Ox for a president, and that's a very good thing, according to Chinese zodiac astrologers.
Born on August 4, 1961, President Barack Obama was born in the year of the Metal Ox.
"He's very confident and strong-willed and he's not afraid to speak his mind. He's honest, dependable and doesn't promise more than he can deliver and sets about objectives with dogged determination," says Dora Nipp, CEO of the Multicultural History Society of Ontario, speaking to the Edmonton Sun.
Along with the Dragon, the Ox is one of the two powerful Chinese Zodiac signs. The Ox is "steadfast, solid, a goal-oriented leader, detail-oriented, hard-working, stubborn, serious and introverted but can feel lonely and insecure. Takes comfort in friends and family and is a reliable, protective and strong companion," according to a Chinese zodiac website.
The Chinese zodiac is comprised of a twelve-year cycle that has a different animal for each year, starting with the Rat, followed by Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Sheep, Monkey, Rooster, Dog and Boar. Every 12-year cycle also has a different element, such as earth, water, fire, or metal.
Today is the start of the year of the Earth Ox, which will last until February 13, 2010.
It's going to be a year signified by slow, steadfast progress, according to Tarot.com.
The Year of the Earth Ox evokes stability and dependability. The Ox is a practical work animal, while the Earth element is steady and firm. Together, they create a kind of plodding energy that can be exasperating. Still, progress will be made in 2009; it will occur in slow, barely perceptible increments. If you stay patient and keep your nose to the grindstone, you will make the most of this ponderous energy.
