What on earth possessed Carmen, a 10 year-old cat in New York City, to attack one of her owners on Saturday afternoon? The New York Post reports that the Russian blue kitty terrorized pet owners, Rosa Davila and her son, Victor Marte, 27, for half an hour as mother and son hid behind a bedroom door.
"All of a sudden Carmen got violent and started making strange noises," Davila told the New York Post. The 16-pound Carmen suddenly launched herself at the son, as Davila frantically called 911. "I was very scared for my son," Davila told the New York Post.
Hordes of police officers arrived at Davila's aparment, expecting a bobcat, reports the New York Post. The cat was coaxed into a carrier and taken to Manhattan's Animal Care and Control center, where she may be available for adoption after being evaluated.
"I knew [Carmen] was moody, but this just doesn't make any sense," Davila told the New York Post, insisting that her cat's violent behavior may be related to her medical condition. A few months ago, Carmen was diagnosed as a "borderline diabetic with a thyroid condition," reports the New York Post. Davila was unable to afford proper medical treatment and noticed Carmen "began acting strangely a few months ago, wanting food every five minutes and gaining weight," reports the New York Post.
Could Carmen have been hungry? Or angry at the lack of medical attention?
