Need a little lift to your day? How about a grinning green frog to perk you up?
That's the idea behind one woman's habit of randomly passing out rubbery green frogs who carry a special message: F.R.O.G. is actually an acronym for "Fully Rely on God."
After Hurricane Wilma ripped through her Florida community, Arline Bee was sitting in a church class when the teacher showed the class a "bright green rubber frog with big googly eyes and spindly legs" sitting on her index finger, Bee writes on Guideposts.com. “'F.R.O.G. stands for Fully Rely on God, and that’s what we need to do, especially now,'” Bee recalls the teacher saying. "Everyone clapped. The message was just what we needed."
Inspired, Bee thought other people could benefit from the message, too. She purchased a bunch of little frog figurines, typed up little slips of paper with the "Fully Rely on God" message and began handing them out to strangers: a sad-looking woman at a gas station, a military veteran, and even her son. Rather than thinking she was crazy, the recipients all told Bee the same thing: "Thank you, it was just what I needed to hear."
Today, Bee has handed out "more than 4,000 frogs, to everyone from teachers to bus drivers to grocers, even the governor of Virginia and President Obama and his family," she writes at Guideposts.com. That's why they call her the Frog Lady. It's a nickname she bears proudly.
