Surveillance cameras at a veterinary clinic on Long Island, New York captured a German Shepherd named Pharaoh -- wearing a surgical cone -- unlock a deadbolt, turn the handle of a round doorknob, and escape the clinic through a back door.
"Absolutely, the best escape artist, dog Houdini I ever came across, " veterinarian Dr. Peter Kowalewski of Hauppauge Animal Hospital told local ABC News.
Surprising still was how Pharaoh had gotten out of his kennel in the first place. After surreptitiously stealing out the clinic's back door, the wily German Shepherd encountered a 6' high chain link fence. Undaunted, Pharaoh jumped up on his hind legs to press down on the lever holding the gate closed. As soon as the gate swung open, Pharaoh was free.
Luckily, a passerby spotted Pharaoh, still wearing his surgical cone, at a park several miles away. The dog was returned to his owner, who was not home when news crews visited.
