The Utah man who admitted to killing one dog and beating another received his sentence this week: 90 days in jail, $1,000 fine and 36 months probation.
William Clark McKnight, 29, pled guilty in September to two counts of aggravated animal cruelty, which are both class A misdemeanors in Utah. He faced up to one year in prison and a $2,500 fine for each count, but was given the more lenient 90 days in jail and lesser fine.
Court documents described how McKnight--who was watching the dogs at a friend's house in Sandy, Utah--inflicted harm on the dogs by "grabbing their necks and throwing them against the walls and floor." One dog died en route to the hospital; the other suffered a broken leg and internal bleeding.

Meanwhile, in Burlingame, California, a 27 year-old man killed his girlfriend's dog--a seven-pound miniature pinscher named Godiva--by beating it so savagely that one of the dog's eyes came out of its socket.
The local district attorney's office charged the California man with two felony counts of animal cruelty and a misdemeanor charge of hiding evidence. The man faces up to three years in prison.
