In his acceptance speech last night, President-elect Barack Obama, said the magic words his daughters, Malia (age 10) and Sasha (7), have been waiting to hear. "I love you both so much," Obama said in his speech, "and you have earned the new puppy that's coming with us to the White House. "

Will it be a purebreed, a mutt, or a rescue? The dogs currently residing in the White House are the Bushes' Scottish Terriers, Barney and Ms. Beazley.  Before that, Bill Clinton had a chocolate-brown Labrador named Buddy, who was a gift from a friend. (Sadly, Buddy was killed in 2002 when he was hit by a car in Chappaqua, New York.)

According to a presidential pup poll conducted by the American Kennel Club, 42,000 people voted and the Poodle won out as the breed most suitable for the Obama family. The soft Wheaten Terrier came in a close second.

The nation awaits to see what kind of dog the Obamas will choose, what they will name it, and what their breed of choice may say about their personality as a family.

Stay tuned for updates!
