Recent reports of the growth of the "mobile Web" prompt me to make this post and to share what I've learned about mobility in an upcoming talk on Friday, November 6 which will be broadcasted and archived, BUT I don't think it'll be available outside of IUPUI :-( Nevertheless, I thought I would share some of what I intend to say. First, here are my slides to accompany my audio presentation. Be sure to create a Netvibes account (IF you don't already have one) and log into it so you will be able to view the "mobile-friendly" Netvibes pages which gave me trouble during my presentation because I "forgot" to log in to Netvibes!
Although I've been an early adopter of mobility, I've been especially bullish lately as I've witnessed not only the wealth of content now accessible to mobile devices, but especially the relative ease of rendering content to be "mobile-friendly"
For some time, I have been a fan of services such as Winksite and MoFuse. I have used these services to build:
As if this weren't enough, imagine my excitement when I just discovered that Netvibes, one of my favorite services, now has an even easier way to build "mobile-friendly" sites! I have used Netvibes for many of the sites for which I am best known such as:
The big breakthrough came when @netvibes told me there are now mobile versions of these pages:
These are still a "work-in-progress" but it is still a "big deal" because it now means that I will NOT have to build a different version of the site (using Winksite), but I can merely re-use the Netvibes content with a mobile URL!
Especially, http://m.learnstream.info seems to be useful already! Let me know if you're going to use Netvibes too!
