Adam Rubin of the New York Daily News reported earlier today that Mets reliever J.J. Putz will undergo surgery next Tuesday to remove a bone spur from his right throwing elbow.

The club has known about the condition for the past few weeks, with Putz receiving a cortisone shot to the elbow in May.  But an Mri this week revealed the bone spur had fragmented, leaving surgery the only option.

Putz will need at least six weeks before he can resume baseball activity, with general manager Omar Minaya placing a timetable of at least ten weeks on his return.
