Mets third basemen David Wright finished seventh in the voting for National League Most Valuable Player, which was released Monday afternoon.  First baseman Carlos Delgado finished ninth.

Cardinals first basemen Albert Pujols took home the hardware, his second MVP in his illustrious career.  Wright totaled 115 points in the voting, and Delgado tallied 96.  Other Mets receiving votes were southpaw Johan Santana with 30 points, center fielder Carlos Beltran with 10 points, and shortstop Jose Reyes with three points.  No Met received a first-place vote.

In other news...

Free-agent closer Francisco Rodriguez was in New York this weekend getting a physical, and according to a report in El Universal, a Venezuelan newspaper, he was being checked out by Mets doctors because the team was set to sign him.  The reports, however, were refuted by Mets beat writer Marty Noble, and several other sources.  According to 1050 ESPN Radio's Rich Coutinho, K-Rod will be in New York on Tuesday for another physical.

So he was here for a physical, but not for the Mets, but he'll be here on Tuesday.  Anybody else's head spinning?  Mine sure is, but my loyal readers need to know these things.

Lastly, according to David Lennon of Newsday, the Mets will be making contract offers to K-Rod and Rockies closer Brian Fuentes this week, along with a starting pitcher, most likely Dodgers righty Derek Lowe

Be sure to check back to my page throughout the offseason for complete Mets hot stove coverage.
