A House Representative member living in New York City is trying to close 24,000,000 acres of PUBLIC LAND thousands of miles away, with zero support from representatives in affected districts.
The land is highly used and modified already and does not fit in the "wilderness" classification as defined in 1964.
Ed Moreland of the American Motorcyclist Association said this about HR980:
“Enthusiasts who enjoy the public lands of our nation are not just the nimble and fit but also families with small children who wish to recreate together as well as active senior citizens and the handicapped who enjoy the freedom to access the outdoors that OHVs and ATVs provide.”
H.R. 980 was proposed by Representative Carolyn Maloney, D-N.Y., on Feb. 11.
Government officials have been trying to close public land to OHV and ATV users for many years, and are slowly moving them out of as many areas they can, often disregarding sound science and logic, as in the case of the Peirson's Milk Vetch (PMV) where the American Sand Association has been exposing the Center for Biological Diversity (CBD) for making false, unproven claims. The ASA made their case by using science. From scientists.
