
This Tuesday’s episode focused on inspiring others to get healthy. The contestants spent the week in Washington, D.C., rallying complete strangers to join them in a mass workout session with Bob and Jillian. They had the chance to speak with members of Congress to discuss the issue of obesity.
One is diagnosed as obese when there is excessive body fat, with a Body Mass Index is over 30, with morbid obesity occurring at over 40, according to the Mayo Clinic
Complications from being obese include:
· Heart disease
· High blood pressure
· High cholesterol
· Cancer
· Type 2 diabetes
Obesity is not just an adult issue- the number of children who have been diagnosed as obese have skyrocketed. Daniel spoke candidly about his struggle of being in school and overweight. He was only required 1 credit of health and 1 credit of gym. His grades slipped due to the depression he felt from being overweight.
With one out of every three adults in America diagnosed as obese, it is more crucial than ever to get the message out there just how serious this epidemic is. It’s been stated before, and Bob reiterated the fact last night during his interview: it just takes one step in the right direction.
