American Apparel

American Apparel is a company based in downtown Los Angeles which operates the largest garment factory in the United States, at a time when most apparel production has moved offshore. They produce very basic, brightly colored jersey cotton pieces such as leggings, T-shirts, dresses and hoodies, synonymous with the laid back California style.

This company treats their employees ethically and has also taken many measures to minimize their impact on the environment including using solar power, recycling fabric scraps and organic cotton. Their Organic Collection is a selection of their most popular styles made from 100% USDA Certified Organic and pesticide-free cotton.

They also employ a low-impact dyeing process which eliminates chemical waste, providing numerous environmental and health benefits, including using less water than in a traditional dyeing process. American Apparel also joined the Cleaner Cotton Campaign by buying 30,000 pounds of Cleaner Cotton (also known as B.A.S.I.C. cotton) to incorporate into their non-organic line.

Thankfully, this great company makes a line of reasonably priced organic underwear which can be purchased at American Apparel stores nationwide as well as on their website at www.amercanapparel.net
