As has been widely reported, actress Farrah Fawcett died of cancer this morning at the age of 62.
Elsewhere in Examiner.com there will be stories of her movie roles, her stint on Charlie's Angels, her impact on the entertainment industry, and more. But as is the case with most stars, her earliest roles were on television, and in a few cases, situation comedies. No record of Ms. Fawcett's life would be complete without mentioning these (admittedly small) roles, so here's a brief overview of Farrah Fawcett's early sitcom roles.
In the "Millie the Model" episode of Mayberry R.F.D. (airdate 10/20/69), Millie Swanson (Arlene Golonka), girlfriend of Sam Jones (Ken Berry) is offered a chance to go to New York to model. Millie leaves, and Sam decides to follow her. Farrah Fawcett played "Show Girl #1".
Ms. Fawcett appeared twice on I Dream of Jeannie. In "My Sister the Home Wrecker" (airdate 12/9/69), Jeannie's sister shows up and tries to convince everyone that Jeannie is having an affair. Farrah was "Tina" in this episode. In "See You in C-U-B-A" (airdate 11/4/69), Farrah was "Cindy", in an episode centered around Jeannie landing Tony Nelson and his plane in Cuba instead of Puerto Rico.
Farrah Fawcett was also in two episodes of The Flying Nun. The first was "Marcello's Idol" (airdate 10/15/69), in which a young boy leads the nuns to conclude he need a male influence in his life when he refers to the sisters as "guys". Ms. Fawcett played "Lila" in this episode. The second was an appearance as "Miss Preem" in "Armando and the Pool Table" (airdate 1/23/70), in which the nun's benefactor, Carlos Ramirez, donates a pool table to the convent.
In The Partridge Family episode "The Sound of Money" (airdate 10/2/70), Farrah Fawcett's role was "Pretty Girl". In this episode guest star Harry Morgan sues the Partridges for $500,000 after a minor car accident.
Farrah Fawcett's last situation comedy appearance was in the obscure The Girl with Something Extra, a short-lived show about a newlywed couple trying to live a normal life while dealing with the wife's ESP abilities. In "How Green was Las Vegas" (airdate 10/5/73), Farrah was "Carol", a small role in a story involving using ESP to win at Las Vegas (complications ensue when the Darren Stevens-like husband insists they give the money back). Of interest is that this show, like The Flying Nun, starred Sally Field, giving Ms. Field the distinction of having appeared most frequently in sitcoms with Farrah Fawcett.
Of course, Farrah Fawcett appeared in many different roles, many of which gave her far more screen time that all the above roles combined. But all actors take lessons away from any role they play, and so these small roles gave Farrah Fawcett some of the experience she would use to become the actress she was.
