There are leaders and there are followers.  This year make a resolution to be more fashion-forward.  A fashion-forward person is a trend-setter and stands apart from the crowd.  This way of dressing is an approach to clothing and style that is different from the more traditional, safe choices.  January is the perfect time of year to take this challenge on.  You are resolving to change many aspects of your life, like your health and your financial situation.  Why not resolve to have more confidence and to spend more time focusing on little things that can make you feel good, like looking your best.  When the depressing winter weather makes you feel blasé it can lead you into a fashion rut.  Here is a plan to kick start the new fashion-forward you.

Look in your closet and think of one of your safe, “go-to” outfits.  Then think about how you can tweak it just slightly.  Layer a long-sleeve turtleneck or t-shirt under your everyday dress.  Think of the dress as a shell piece that can be worn with sleeves of all lengths, tights, leggings, even jeans underneath to completely change the look.  While we are in a recession you may not want to look outside of your closet but here are a couple tips if you are going to be shopping.  The easiest way to update your look is to add accessories that are in vogue now.  This means that you put off buying staples, the things that you already have, and focus on little touches that will make your look fresh.  Even if you buy a couple of accessories it won’t necessarily break the bank, and just think – you will be supporting your local economy.
