From the runway to the GAP, ruffles are everywhere this season. A forever favorite of girly girls, ruffles are no longer just for hemlines. This season, we are seeing a lot of ruffles on the tops of blouses and dresses. Part of the reason for this trend is that designers and consumers have begun focusing on bringing the varying textures found on the runway to the consumer. One of my favorite ruffled items is MM Couture’s Ruffled Sleeveless Silk Dress in plum. This simple tank dress is easy to wear and looks fabulous on. At approximately $125 this is an affordable dress for a special occasion, which makes it a great buy for the holidays.
While the immense amount of ruffled products in the stores this season may seem like a free-for-all to add ruffles to your wardrobe, there are some rules to keep in mind. When you experiment with textures and volume in your wardrobe it is important to keep things balanced. For example, with the MM Couture dress, accessories should be streamlined. A couple bangles, some simple earrings, and understated shoes are all that this dress needs. If you have a blouse with ruffles near the neckline it is important to pair it with something on the bottom that does not compete with the ruffles on top. Some good ideas would be skinny jeans or a pencil skirt. If you remember to balance out the ruffles with something more structured and streamlined, you will have no problem easily translating this runway trend to your everyday life.
