The Discovery Channel announced on Monday that Oprah Winfrey will be the voice behind their new 11-part miniseries, Life. The new nature series is the ambitious follow-up to the Discovery Channel's stunning, breakthrough 2007 series, Planet Earth.
According to Discovery, Life, "reveals the most spectacular, bizarre and fascinating behaviors that living things have devised in order to thrive. Many of these were captured for the first time using the latest in state-of-the-art high-definition filming techniques."
Life is a production of the BBC and has been in production for over four years. The folks at Discovery wanted "one of the most influential voices of our time" to narrate the series. John Ford, President and General Manager of Discovery Channel, said in a statement,
We are honored to have Oprah Winfrey tell the story of what is already a visual masterpiece. The stories capture your imagination, curiosity and emotion as you see animals and plants up close and personal — each story more amazing. Ms. Winfrey will be the perfect complement to this blue-chip natural history television event."
The channel’s parent company, Discovery Communications, already has a relationship with Oprah. It's developing her new cable channel called OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network.
Life is set to premiere in March 2010.
