It was July 17th 1999 when the Spongebob Squarepants series officially aired on Nickelodeon with the hilarious episode “Bubblestand/Ripped Pants”. Ten years later the series is still going strong with the premiere of 10 new episodes launching this weekend.
Considered one of the greatest television shows of all time by Time magazine, this truly is a cartoon the whole family can enjoy. Even President Barack Obama considers Spongebob as one of his favorite television characters so you can bet your Bikini Bottom that he’s already got this weekend’s bash set up on the DVR.
One can only imagine how the shows creator, Stephen Hillenburg, must feel knowing this funny little sponge of his is still going stong after 10 years let alone having it translated in 25 different languages for fans around the world.
The success of the show is without a doubt founded on superbly written scripts, but one can’t forget the amazing voice talents behind these water soaked critters. They’re the folks responsible for breathing life into these memorable characters which most of us can relate to in one way or another. Once the voice talent sends things over the top the animators are left to blow the visuals out of the water with hilarious exagerations.
So gather the family and some popcorn and settle into the couch for this weekends anniversary celebration to enjoy hours upon hours upon hours worth of laughter together! ![]()
