The Volkswagen GTI was one of Car and
Driver magazine's top ten choices among 2009-
model cars.

Hot on the heels of Motor Trend selecting the Nissan GT-R as its car of the year, competing auto magazine Car and Driver chose its annual top 10.

Unlike Motor Trend, which only looks at brand-new designs, Car and Driver considers past winners in its 10Best competition. Eight of the 10 winners this year were repeats, with the Infiniti G37 and Jaguar XF unseating the Chevrolet Malibu and MazdaSpeed 3 from last year's list.

Despite a fresh win from Motor Trend, the $77,000 Nissan GT-R was too expensive to be considered for a Car and Driver award.

Car and Driver does not select a winner in each market class, as the list of winners makes clear. Rather, they simply and unscientifically pick 10 cars that they really like. The winners are below:

Car and Driver 10Best Cars
BMW 3-SeriesCadillac CTS
Chevrolet CorvetteHonda Accord
Honda FitInfiniti G37
Jaguar XFMazda MX-5 Miata
Porsche Boxster/CaymanVolkswagen GTI
