The WWE Royal Rumble has always been one of the most popular events of the year in wrestling, mostly because of its unpredictability, its length, and its outstanding performances.  However, not every event was a stellar performance, and a lot of times, the undercard was almost painful enough to make you want to cancel the subscription early.  What follows are the five moments of fail that the Royal Rumble will never get back.

5) The Crying Steiners (1994) - There are some who may completely disagree with this, since this was one of the early catalysts that kicked off the grand years of WCW.  However, this was a blatant mutiny of kayfabe, broken by the ever popular Steiner Brothers.  McMahon wanted to have the two battle it out early in the Rumble after drawing numbers 1 and 3.  However, they refused and just sat in opposite corners, bothered by the request.  They subsequently left the WWE and went back to WCW.

4) The Tie (1994) - To book a battle royal of any sort to end in a tie is risky at best.  It is very hard to make such an ending unless it is meticulously rehearsed.  Even still, if one of the participants landed early, your entire next few months of storyline might be botched.  When Bret Hart and Lex Luger landed "at the same time" on the floor to end the 1994 Rumble, the best way to cover up any possible mistakes was to have most of your TV angles not quite capture the moment.  It looked pretty bad.  However, the WrestleMania X matches that came from this more than made up for it.

3) The Pose-Down (1989) - This was between Ultimate Warrior and Ravishing Rick Rude.  It wasn't a match, just a roid-exhibition that ended with Ultimate Warrior getting choked.  The crowd booed the heel, and cheered the face, and no real action took place.  Bobby Heenan wasn't even that funny.  This is about twenty minutes of a viewer's life they'll never get back.

2) Giant Gonzalez (1993) - This was kind of a giant (pun intended) middle finger directed at the typical WWE fan.  Just like today, the Undertaker was one of the most popular stars of the time.  His appearance in the 1993 Rumble was highly anticipated and fans were expecting a possible Hart/Undertaker main event at WrestleMania IX.  However, the Undertaker got an early number, kicked serious butt early, and then all of a sudden, El Gigante appears wearing a Sasquatch outfit!  He illegally jumps into the ring, and eliminates Taker.  It would have been one thing if Yokozuna or someone of real status eliminated him, but this is just unacceptable.

1) Mae Young (2000) - This is a runaway for number one.  Young won the Miss Royal Rumble 2000 bikini contest, and subsequently removed her bathing suit, exposing her chest to the world.  Some reports say this was a prosthetic.  However, DVD releases are censored, and Mark Henry worked very hard to cover the reality of the situation.  Either way, real or fake, it's still a really scary thought to even think of Mae Young in that way.
