Today, after fighting long and hard with cancer, Farrah Fawcett left us at age 62.
Farrah Fawcett has always been considered an "angel," and although she didn't always behave like one, she impacted the small and silver screens in such a way that even in her sex symbol status, she never came off as merely an object.
A perfect example is her role as the "damsel in distress" in the 1981 film The Cannonball Run. Fawcett pulled the focus in just about every scene she had. Never by dressing too scantily or acting the fool, but by being confident. She knew she was sexy, and even though her character was meek and vulnerable. Fawcett as a victim of an impromptu kidnapping, undergoes so many subtle changes that by the end of the film, she becomes one of the group.
After she's kidnapped, she's obviously angry. But after a very heartfelt conversation with J.J. (Burt Reynolds), it's obvious that she develops a newfound respect for the rebel race-car driver.
It may not be the greatest film ever, or shown on TV often, but it's a great performance, and the one that this reporter will always remember
