Your weekend to-do list: art & film
Tired of hitting up the same ole bars, making silly conversation with strangers? Try spending a very thought-provoking Friday evening exploring the ideas of life and death at Exit Art Gallery’s Corpus Extremus (LIFE+) exhibition. A presentation of work by a number of artists who used bio- and media- technologies to investigate questions of life and death, Corpus Extremus (LIFE+) explores “with the transformation of our notions of life and death due to the implementation of biotechnological advances in everyday life.” On Friday, March 6th from 6PM to 9PM, artist Paul Vanouse will present his work, discussing issues of biopiracy and patenting of life. Afterwards, Adam Zaretsky will do a presentation on mutagenic arts, relating to his work pFARM:: Organic Fetish Biotech, which will be followed by a screening of the project’s 60-minte film. The event is free to the public and will also host a cash bar.
On Saturday, March 7th, several Brooklyn galleries, in partnership with Armory Week, Artlog.com and the Williamsburg Gallery Association (WGA), will open their doors to the art-loving public until 11PM. Want a little guidance while you walk? No problem! The WGA will lead a series of art tours with proceeds benefiting the organization. Tours are $12, tours & after-party are $20. The tour schedule is below:

- 6:30PM Urban Art Tour led by Steve Harrington, check-in at Front Room
- 7:30PM Press Tour led by Merrily Kerr, check-in at Oulu

- 8PM Collector Tour led by Gilliam Wilson, check-in at Slate
- 8:30PM Collector Tour led by Lynn Del Sol, check-in at Jack the Pelican
Participating WGA Galleries include 3rd Ward, art101, ArtBreak Gallery, Black & White Gallery, Capricious Space, Ch’i Contemporary Fine Art, Cinders, Figureworks, Front Room, Galeria Janet Kurnatowski, Hogar Collection, HQ, Jack the Pelican Presents, Like the Spice, LMAK Projects, McCaig-Welles and Rosenthal Gallery, Momenta Art, NURTUREart, Parker’s Box, Pierogi, Sideshow, Slate Gallery, and Stripeman
Additionally, a number of nearby bars, restaurants and boutiques will be offering WGA visitors special discounts from 7PM to 9PM (look for the red lights to identify the participants!). Once you’ve enjoyed your stroll through the art galleries, celebrate with Artlog and WGA at the day’s after-party at 213 North 8th Street (between Driggs Avenue and Roebling Street), featuring a show by Brooklyn artists, including Bonnie Brennan, Peter Calvin, Sena Clara Creston, Isolde Kille, Tamara Kowal, Alex Spinney and Jenn Sgro. Guests can also enjoy music by DJs Alex English, Alex Pall, Rhett with a special live performance by U.S. Royalty. Doors open at 9:45PM, open bar and live art production from 10PM to 11PM.
Need a little help getting there? A shuttle bus is available from the Armory Fair @ pier 92 (12th Avenue & 55th Street) to Williamsburg starting at 6:30PM.

français, the week-long French film festival, Rendez-Vous with French Cinema, kicks off this Friday, March 6th! Presented with
Unifrance and the
Film Society of Lincoln Center, filmmakers will be there in person at a majority of the screenings, making the festival be a truly unique and exciting movie-watching experience.

French accents and sub-titles not your thing? On Saturday, March 7th, stay in with a movie and join director and performer, John Cameron Mitchell, the creator and star of the stage and screen versions of Hedwig and the Angry Inch and the director of the controversial Shortbus, also at the IFC Center.
Mitchell will present a special screening and discussion of one of his personal favorites: John Cassavetes's rarely screened cult-classic comedy Minnie and Moskowitz (1971) in studio archive 35mm print— “Gena Rowlands and Seymour Cassel star as an unlikely couple thrown together when Cassel's parking lot attendant intercedes during a blind date gone bad.”
