Blizzcon is the annual convention for the products released by Blizzard Entertainment, including the Starcraft, Diablo, and Warcraft franchises.  The 2-day meet and greet event is scheduled to occur August 21-22 in Anaheim, California, and is largely populated with developers, industry insiders, and lots and lots of fans.  The opportunity to be introduced with some of the people behind the amazing virtual worlds is a huge draw for most players of PC games, along with the chance of being able to get their hands on some of the new properties currently in development.

The first batch of tickets to Blizzcon 2009 went on sale this morning and have already sold out as of the time of this writing (5/16/09, 2:40pm EST).  However, those who missed out this morning will have another chance to purchase tickets on May 30.  There will also be DirecTV packages for satellite TV and internet streams, so gamers all over the world can keep abreast of the latest news and events from their homes.

Following their tradition of attaching special in-game items to convention attendance and collector's edition purchases, the murloc marine in-game pet will be available this year.  Blizzard community managers have confirmed that the pet will be awarded following purchase of either tickets or the DirecTV packages.

Because last year's Blizzcon ticket sale process encountered so many problems, Blizzard has instituted some new and improved features to the purchasing process.  For those who are hoping to score tickets on the 30th, it would definitely be worth it to visit Blizzard.com, create a Battle.net account, and read up on the system.  A Battle.net account will be required in order to buy tickets, and waiting out the queue just to be kicked to the back of the line would be a nightmare.  Don't let it happen to you!
