NC Soft has fired another salvo in the battle against botting players with their plans for patch 1.5.1. While gathering aether, a player has a chance to encounter poison gas. The poison can only be cleansed by typing the set of random letters provided with the poison notice.
Infected players who fail three times in a row to type the letters will lose the ability to extract vitality or aether. Although not specified in the patch notes released on the official site, it assumed that this effect will be temporary. It is, however, probably enough to discourage players from using a botting program to farm materials which are then sold for kinah - which is, in turn, sold for real currency.
Bots, spammers, and kinah-sellers have proved to be a real source of problems for NC Soft, especially in Aion. Many of those who tried the game and abandoned it have cited these issues as the primary reason. The situation has been steadily improving, however, and it is apparently that the developers have no intention of ceding the war at this stage.
