This October, National Fire Safety Month, industry leaders Bark Buckle UP and the “Pet Safety Lady” have teamed up with fire departments nationwide and the manufacturer of the much needed Pet Oxygen Masks, to launch the “Bark 10-4” campaign.
Losing a pet in a house fire can be a devastating experience. Annually, an estimated 500,000 pets are affected by fires in the United States and over 40,000 pets die each year due to smoke asphyxiation. Firefighters can often save a pet's life, if they have the right equipment.
“Bark 10-4” was created with the idea of getting ‘a mask for every fire truck,’ allowing the public to sponsor a pet oxygen mask for their local fire department. Each mask costs $25.00 or a set that includes all three sizes for $65.00 to sponsor and the process is completed online. At that time, a person will be instructed to designate the specific fire department to receive the mask, which will be delivered with the shipping/handling sponsored by the Pet Oxygen Mask manufacturer SergiVet.
With over 30,000 fire departments and EMT offices nationally and frequently more than one truck per station, the funds to purchase these pet oxygen masks often falls short. The mask works with dogs, cats and other animals, but only if it’s on the scene of an emergency. “The mask only works if it is on the truck,” comments Jose M. Torres, Battalion Chief ‘A’ Platoon Santa Monica Fire Department.
Bark Buckle UP, is a nationally recognized innovative leader in pet safety. With tours throughout the USA and Canada, and company volunteers in over 20 cities, Bark Buckle UP leads the charge for educating and promoting awareness for pet safety.
The “Pet Safety Lady,” works closely with Fire, Police, Coast Guard and EMT personnel who support the safety program and has been featured at International Auto Shows, Pet Expos, Television, Radio, News Articles and guest speaking engagements nationwide.
Selter along with ‘Sparky the Fire Dog’ explains, “We’re encouraging everyone to support a pet oxygen mask for their local fire department today because together we can save pets lives.”
