Nadya Suleman, the California woman who gave birth to octuplets, appeared on a Today show interview this morning to defend her choices and explain her motivations for having 14 children.
Suleman's story has provoked outrage over the fact that she had multiple in vitro fertilizations in order to give birth to her children. despite the fact that she does not have a job, lives with her parents, and collects disability payments.
In the interview, Suleman defended her actions by claiming that she "loves her children," but offered no clear plan on how she planned to support all of them. She also claimed that she was left scarred by a "dysfunctional" childhood, which made her crave attachments.
However, much has been made of the fact that she lives with her parents, so it's doubtful that her childhood was too terrible. Her parents continue to provide for her, help her with her children, and her mother was even forced to declare bankruptcy last year.
